Your Therapeutic Yoga Session

Your therapeutic yoga session begins with a consultation to learn about your health issue and your daily habits.  Jules will do a postural assessment and ask you about your work, hobbies, exercise and rest.

Jules will develop a personal home practice based on your individual needs. You will learn the sequence in your private session. After the session, Jules will send your sequence to you and follow up to see if any questions have come up at home.

Therapeutic yoga works most effectively with a minimum of 4 sessions and regular personal home practice or continued practice in a therapeutic yoga class.

  • You do not need any previous experience in yoga. The session is adapted to suit your needs.
  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing.
  • Do not eat a heavy meal 2 hours prior to your session. Fruit, yogurt and other light snacks are fine to eat beforehand.
  • Sessions are 1 hour long. The first session is 75 minutes.
  • The session can be in your home or in a studio in downtown Victoria.

How did you hear about us?

How stress effects the body
Our bodies are intelligently designed to turn up the level of stress to cope with real-life threats.  This flight or flight response directs blood into our extremities and releases stress hormones.  The most common illnesses in North America are related to an overactive fight / flight response, such as:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Heart disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Type II Diabetes
  • Back Pain

Yoga Therapy trains the body to stimulate the relaxation response (also called the rest and digest response). When we learn how to activate this response in yoga, we can apply when we need it in our daily lives, after stressful events. When we learn to balance the stress and the relaxation response, our bodies are stronger, our minds are clearer and we can cope with the daily stresses of life more effectively.
